In this lab, we study the chemicals that help our brain cells communicate with each other via various signaling molecules. By understanding these tiny messengers, we can learn more about how our brains work, how we can improve mental health, and how to treat neurological diseases.
Protein chemistry techniques are important to understand brain functioning. Here we isolate and study various proteins found in the brain to understand their roles better. We use techniques like Western blotting to detect specific proteins. These techniques help uncover how proteins contribute to brain function and how changes in these proteins can lead to neurological disorders.

2025 - Interns
My internship experience in the neurochemistry lab at Christ University, Central Campus, has been a transformative experience. Working under Mythri Ma'am provided me with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of neuroscience through hands-on experience and an intellectually stimulating environment. From processing brain tissue to analyzing biochemical properties, each task helped me improve my critical thinking and my knowledge on the subject. My name is Adhil Asharaf and I am coming from NITTE University, Mangalore. I worked at Neurochemistry lab under Dr. Mythri Rajeswara Babu for one month. It was a wonderful experience and she was very helpful. She trained us with different skills and she gave us the opportunity of hands-on training. With the guidance of her we got better results in the experiments and we got good project result. Ma’am was well responsive to the questions and concerns, and overall commitment was there. The report from the Neurochemistry lab were easy to understand and provided the information I needed. I was very happy with the service and would help in my future studies.

2026 - Interns
One month ago, I reached out to Mythri ma'am with no prior experience with how a wet lab worked. It was only that I was theoretically aware of the neurochemistry concepts and certain methods from the research papers I reviewed that sounded Greek and Latin back then. However, this internship with Dr Mythri gave me not just first-hand experience in designing an experiment but also in executing the methods and in being a confident speaker and participant in discussions on neuroscience and life sciences. I am taking back not just proficiency in key laboratory techniques but also a new perspective and appreciation for the domain and the research being done within it.

I couldn't have asked for a better month of learning. Dr Mythri's neurochemistry lab at Christ University gave me the exact technical skills I need for my everyday lab work now. But honestly, it taught me so much more than just lab protocols, I learned the real backend of science, like how to actually structure a study and find genuine research gaps. Coming from a pure life science background, interning in a lab under the School of Psychology was a massive eye-opener. It completely shifted my perspective, pushing me to look past just the raw biology and start connecting it to the human psychology side of things, too. It was the perfect mix of hands-on technical training, incredible mentorship, and mindset growth.
